Cronica #6! [Nov. 24th, 2008|11:14 am]
[Current Mood | happy]

Eu estou muito emocioniada por estas ferias que vem agora. Para a acção de graças, eu estarei indo a Miami a permanecer com minha mãe e família. Eu provavelmente vou ajudar a meu pai a cozinhar o peru e porque eu amo cozer, eu vou fazer a sobremesa.

Congratulations, ANDREA SPARANO.

The University of Florida International Center has accepted your application to UF in Nicaragua - Grassroots Development for the Summer, 2008, term.

I'm going to be exposed to several non-profit organizations, visit an organic coffee farm, a volcanic cloud forest, and eat beans and tortillas for six weeks. How exciting! I can't wait to go backpacking through the mountains. :-)

Spring Break is arriving soon and I am making another Disney trip with Renzo...it's bound to be incredibly fun because I will be with him. We really do have a lot of fun together because even though we both engulf ourselves in our "adult" responsibilities we still have that childish spirit inside which I hope that we never lose. I feel like it's that little kid inside of me that keeps me sane sometimes.

The Maid of Honor

Deliberate Gentle Love Master (DGLM)

The Maid of Honor

Appreciated for your kindness and envied for all your experience, you are The Maid of Honor.

Charismatic, affectionate, and terrific in relationships, you are what many guys would call a "perfect catch"--and you probably have many admirers, each wishing to capture your long-term love. You're careful, extra careful, because the last thing you want is to hurt anyone. Especially some poor boy whose only crime was liking you.

We've deduced you're fully capable of a dirty fling, but you do feel that post-coital attachment after hooking up. So, conscientious person that you are, you do your best to reserve physical affection for those you respect...so you can respect yourself.

Your biggest negative is the byproduct of your careful nature: indecision. You're just as slow rejecting someone as you are accepting them.

Your exact female opposite:

Half-Cocked

Half-Cocked

Random Brutal Sex Dreamer

Always avoid: The False Messiah (DBLM), The 5-Night Stand (DBSM), The Vapor Trail (RBLM), The Bachelor (DGSM)

Consider: The Gentleman (DGLM), someone just like you.

Yanomami Spirits according to Davi; Yanomami shaman [Sep. 13th, 2007|03:12 pm]
[Current Mood | busy]

My professor read this in class today and I thought it was beautiful. Bear with me...I know that its long, I just wanted to keep a record of it.

Dreams of the origins

The xapiripe spirits have danced for shamans since the first primordial times and so they continue to dance today. They look like human beings but they are as tiny as specks of sparkling dust. To be able to see them you must inhale the powder of the yakoanahi tree many, many times. It takes as much time as Whites take to learn the designs of their words. The yakoanahi powder is the food of the spirits. Those who don't drink it remain with the eyes of ghosts and see nothing.
The xapiripe dance together on huge mirrors which descend from the sky. They are never dull like humans. They are always magnificent: their bodies painted with read annatto dye and enveloped in black designs, their heads covered with white vulture plumes, their bead armbands adorned with the feathers of parrots, piping guans and red macaws, their waists wrapped in toucan tails.
Thousands of them arrive to dance together waiving fresh palm fronds, letting out whoops of joy and singing without pause. Their paths look like spider webs shining like moonlight and their plume ornaments sway gently to the rhythm of their steps. It thrills you to see how beautiful they are!
The spirits are so numerous because they are images of the animals of the forest. All of those in the forest have an animal image: those who walk on the ground, those who walk in trees, those who have wings, those who live in the water. These are the images the shamans call and make descend to turn into xapiripe spirits, These images are the true centre, the core of the forest beings. Common people cannot see them, only shamans. But they are not images of animals we know today. They are images of the fathers of these animals, images of our ancestors.
In the first times, when the forest was still young, our ancestors were human with names of animals who ended up turning into game. These ones we shoot and eat today. But their images did not disappear and these are the ones who now dance for us as xapiripe spirits. These ancestors are truly ancient. They turned into game a long time ago but their ghosts dwell here still. They have animal names but they are invisible beings who never die. The epidemic of Whites may try to burn and eat them, but they never disappear. The mirrors keep sprouting time and again.
The Whites design their words because their thought is full of forgetting. We have kept the words of our ancestors inside us for a long time and we continue to pass them on to our children. Children, who know nothing of spirits, hear the songs of the shamans and later want to see the spirits for themselves. This is how, despite being very ancient, the words of the xapiripe are always renewed. It is their words which augment our thoughts, which make us see and know things are far away, the things of the ancients. This is our study, this is what teaches us to dream. And this is why someone who doesn't drink the breath of the spirits has short and murky thought; someone who isn't looked upon by the xapiripe doesn't dream it just lies there in dumb slumber like an axe left on the ground.

Nightmare [Jun. 11th, 2007|11:54 am]
[Current Mood | weird]

I hate how my brain thinks that its cute to inspire dreams that involve the extraction of a very crusty, yellow molar in the back of my mouth (I don't really have yellow or crusty molars). The molar was very wiggly and I was able to uproot it with my tongue and afterwards I could feel a huge gap in my mouth.

Dog gets medal for saving kids

Tue May 8, 2:53 AM ET

WELLINGTON (AFP) - Nine-year-old Jack Russell terrier George is being honoured with a posthumous bravery medal for saving five New Zealand children from an attack by two pitbulls.

The medal from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) comes after US Vietnam veteran Jerrell Hudman said he was sending his Purple Heart medal to George's owner after hearing of the dog's bravery.

George, who had a heart problem, won fame after defending five children from the pitbulls in the small North Island town of Manaia a week and a half ago. The two pitbulls rushed at the five children on the street, prompting George to charge the much larger dogs as the children escaped.

The Jack Russell was badly mauled by the two pitbulls and later had to be put down because of his extensive injuries. The two pitbulls were also put down.

The SPCA medal is usually awarded to people for their bravery in defending animals.

"George was a very brave little dog who almost certainly prevented severe injury, if not death, to at least one of the children," SPCA chief executive Robyn Kippenberger said.

"It's truly tragic that he paid with his own life for his instinctive act of courage."

Hudman, 58, of Austin, Texas was a US Marine for 30 years and said he decided to send his Purple Heart to George's owner Alan Gay after reading the news on the Internet because the dog was "a little warrior".

The Purple Heart is awarded to those killed or injured fighting for the US military.

Ladidaaaa [May. 12th, 2007|12:01 pm]
[Current Mood | loved]

After being on vacation for about two weeks and doing nothing but waitressing and eating too much, I realized that I really love school. I'm so happy about starting my stats class on Monday and even happier to start UF in August because I will only be taking classes for my major. The only perks about working at a restaurant is that you could make great tips. I wanted to actually earn enough money to send my mom and Renzo's mom nice bouquets for Mother's Day and I did! I feel very accomplished.

Yesterday was also a wonderful day because Renzo surprised me with beautiful flowers at work . I was so happy just to see him there being all cute that I had to hold back tears. Estoy tan enamorada.... <333333

Miss you all!!! :o)

I am a bum no more. [Apr. 30th, 2007|05:26 pm]
[Current Mood | accomplished]

After about two years of being unemployed I finally found myself a job. I'm a server/hostess/cashier/slave of the Mi Apa Latin Cafe. Today was my second day but I already started serving tables and I really enjoy it because I like to meet new, interesting people and Gainesville has lots... I also enjoy the generous tips. I start UF in the fall though, and I will serve like a raven. Nevermore.

This semester at school has been the best yet. I got out of two final exams because I already had A's in the classes and the final was optional and the only final exam that I do have to take is open book woohoo!

Anywho, pass by and visit me at the Latin Cafe! :)

Gunman kills 32 in Virginia Tech rampage [Apr. 16th, 2007|08:24 pm]

This event has really saddened me. I feel terrible for the students who were killed, and for their family members. I'm also scared because this shooting can surely trigger more of them in the near future. I can't believe that people can be driven to do such unimaginable horrors. :(

Best birthday ever!! [Mar. 18th, 2007|11:11 pm]
[Current Mood | excited]

I would like to say that I have had the best birthday I have ever had in my life this year. Not only did I have the most enlightening and exciting experience in Ecuador and the Galapagos, but Renzo threw me a surprise party and I was able to eat chocolate eggs with some of my good friends and talk about all of the amazing experiences that I had in Ecuador.  Typing about everything that happened would take way too long, but if you really want to know about it then im me or call me! :)

ALSO...I just found out tonight that I am officially a Florida Gator!!!  :)!!!

Congratulations!! Your application to the University of Florida for the 2007 FALL term has been approved.

Official notification will arrive by mail, including important orientation and immunization information.

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!

I'm leaving to the Ecuador and the Galapagos next friday! Getting ready to leave has been exciting...I've been getting closer to the people I am traveling with and to my professors Heather and Stuart. They are all amazing people and I feel lucky and anxious to be traveling with them. The other day we go to cruise on Mr. Mcrae's yaught and my cheeks got really pink, I always end up looking like a shrimp whenever I get sun, but I had forgotten how much I love the ocean...almost as much as I love this doggy:

Time is a real and constant motion always rolling us along [Feb. 17th, 2007|05:43 pm]
[Current Mood | hopeful]

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance.

I wish that I didn't have debts and that I was rich and could travel all over the world. I want to backpack all over Europe and visit other countries like Israel, Lebanon,Peru, Brazil, Egypt, Thailand...I'm definately signing up for study abroad programs soon if I can get more grants. I'm so excited about my Ecuador/Galapagos trip in March! :)

You Should Travel to India

You're a passionate, gusty traveler - and India's gritty urban centers won't scare you away.
Maybe you'll take in the Taj Mahal, eat the best curry of your life, or attend a huge street festival.

Money is the root of all evil [Jan. 24th, 2007|05:19 pm]
[Current Location |library]
[Current Mood | pensive]

My financial situation is getting too stressful. I'm 19, living off of financial aid, and in way too much debt. I can't work right now because I am studying full time. My parents can't help me because they too are in debt and my grandparents are already helping me pay my apartment and my Ecuador trip (which I'm supposed to get a $1,000 grant for in Feb. to pay for half of the $2,500 cost). I don't regret having paid $1,500 for the trip because it is a trip that I will benefit from tremendously being an anthropology major and doing my first ethnographic study on the islands where Darwin carried out his evolution research. Plus, I love to travel and I've needed a vacation somewhere new and exciting for some time now.

I am in a desperate situation and have come up with a few ideas to make money. Though one of them may sound drastic, going through with it will allow me to completely pay off all of my debts and loans, and have extra money for the rest of my college years.

1)Sell all of my fancy dresses/other expensive belongings (though I don't have too many of those).
2)Donate my eggs. The downside: There might be a little girl who looks like me out there someday which I will never come to know, and the procedure might cause a few side effects, BUT they give you anywhere from $5,000-$15,000 depending on how many eggs you can produce during the treatment.

What do you all think? Too drastic? Does anybody else have any other money-making ideas??? Please help!!

My holidays were wonderful this year! I hope that it was the same for all of my friends as well. :o)

I had family visiting from Mexico and we all drove to North Carolina to play with snow. It was the first time that I had seen it and I loved it so much more than I thought that I would.
Fun times )

New Years was spent at my house with my family and Renzo. After midnight Renz and I headed off to a few parties. I received many interesting phone calls that night as well lol. ;o)

HARRY POTTER! <3 [Dec. 23rd, 2006|05:53 pm]
[Current Mood | giddy]

The seventh Harry Potter book will be titled: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS

Who lives? Who Dies? Who falls in love? How will the adventure finally end???

I'm sooo excited but I anticipate its arrival to be either late summer or fall and that seems like such a long time to wait...

JKRowling.com diary update, December 19th, 2006:

"The long lack of updates has been due to some very hard work. I'm now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more. I don't think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels: I am alternately elated and overwrought. I both want, and don't want, to finish this book (don't worry, I will.)"

Now that I am done geeking out: HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!! I HOPE THAT EVERYONE HAS A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. :)
